Built in 1890 as the Australian Contingent Hotel on the corner of Nelson and Albion Streets, this landmark Annandale building spent over a century as a pub, then a merchant's warehouse, before Soho Urban Property took on its transformation into The Contingent, a four-level residence that keeps the original sandstone walls and soaring volumes at its heart. It's a project where the hardware had to earn its place alongside genuinely heritage bones, and Aged Brass was the natural fit.
Aged Brass runs through the home's cabinetry and doors alike, the fluted Cassandra pull and matching Athena T-Bar bring texture to the joinery, the Rosedale passage and privacy sets handle the internal doors with a knurled, tactile grip, and the Timeless Cora and Phoebe pulls round out the cabinetry in the wine cellar and secondary spaces. Ball bearing and lift-off hinges throughout keep every door swinging as smoothly as the finish looks.
