Our passage sets are designed not only for their looks, but for maximum functionality as well. When installed correctly, our hardware will long outlast its 10 year mechanical warranty! We've created a few videos to assist with the installation of our passage sets, including drilling the holes, fitting the handle, and installing the strike plate.
These videos are designed for first timers and DIYers who may be unfamiliar with the hardware or processes involved with installation.
NOTE: If your holes are already drilled, skip to Part 2 titled "Installing The Handle"
PART 1: DRILLING THE HOLES
Tools Required:
Before you begin the installation, gather the following tools:
Reference the video below to see best practice for fresh installation of your Manovella Passage Set:
a) Tape the template for the passage set to the door, ensuring it is square. Mark fixing holes, spindle hole and centre of door with centre punch. Then remove template
b) Check marked holes & proceed to pre-drill the face of the door with a 2mm bit going all the way through. Ensure holes are drilled straight and true. Drill the 7mm fixing holes, and 20mm spindle hole, making sure you start the holes from each side of the door to prevent a blow out.
c) Drill the latch hole with a 25mm spade bit, marking the MINIMUM hole depth of the overall latch length. Pre-drill & screw latch into the door ensuring it is straight. Mark top & bottom with a pencil, and the left & right with a Stanley knife.
d) Remove the latch and chisel it out, ensuring the latch face sits flush with the faceplate on it when re-installed. Make sure the latch is sitting straight and lines up with the holes drilled.
You are now ready to install the handle!
PART 2: FITTING THE HANDLE
a) Starting with the latch in the door from the previous step, insert the split spindle by depressing the spring loaded pin with a small flat blade, and pushing it through the spindle hub.
b) Take one of the levers and back the grub screw located underneath the lever with the Allen key provided. NOTE there is no grub screw on the Lexton design.
Now slip the handle over the spindle in the door & insert fixing screws.
c) Check visually that all fixing screws are straight and not sitting hard against the latch or timber. Remove handle from door and cut screws to length as shown in the video. Reinsert handle over the spindle
d) Take the lever for the other side of the door and back the grub screw off the bottom of the lever. Insert the Hex sleeves in the horizontal fixing holes, and slip the handle over the spindle. Tighten the screws from the other side of the door. NOTE It is easier & safer to use a screwdriver for this to prevent damage to the lever.
e) Test the lever from both sides, ensuring the handle springs back nicely, and there is no movement in the rose. Then retighten BOTH grub screws, and slip the rose cover over the top of the lever.
PART 3: INSTALLING THE STRIKE PLATE
a) With the door opening towards you, shut the door and mark the centre line of the latch. Using a steel rule, mark the distance from the back of the latch to the face of the door frame. The video example is 12mm. This denotes the edge of the latch hole in the frame.
b) Using these marks, you can locate the required position of the strike plate on the frame and mark the fixing holes.
NOTE: Flip the strike plate so the face is against the door frame to get the fixing holes closer to the frame, as the metal tab will prevent it from sitting flush.
c) Pre drill the fixing holes, and screw the faceplate face down on the frame lightly, then mark the area to be removed with a knife. Remove strike plate and drill/chisel this out.
d) Chisel 2mm into the frame to ensure the strike plate sits flush, and then install keeper and strike plate.
TIP Using the internal metal tab on the strike plate, you can adjust the tolerance in case the latching is too tight or too loose i.e. if the door rattles when closed, or doesn't latch properly.
